"A collaboration between the Bayles lab at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) and the Foster lab at the University of Sheffield was established to investigate the expression of genes involved in Programmed Cell Death (PCD) of Staphylococcus aureus during an infection of live zebrafish. The goal of the collaboration was to see if we could use the tools used at UNMC in the zebrafish infection model to get a better insight into the temporal and stochastic control of PCD gene expression during an infection. During my short time here (two months), I have learned how to use the zebrafish infection model and have used microscopy to visualise the expression of the PCD genes during an infection. This experience has complemented the in vitro research we’ve done at the University of Nebraska Medical Center (UNMC) as well as provided valuable training to expand my skill set as a scientist. |
