Who we are

The Florey Institute for Host-Pathogen Interactions was established to create a world-leading focus on antimicrobial resistance (AMR), from fundamental science through to translation. We are a strategic priority for the University of Sheffield, and together with our collaborative partners, we are ‘bridging the gap’ between science and patient care. By working together we can grow the scale and ambition of our research to provide solutions to the global threat of AMR and reduce the burden of infectious disease.

The Florey institute provides:
  • An interactive forum to promote and facilitate multidisciplinary research into AMR and host-pathogen interactions
  • A platform to showcase research on the pathogenesis of important human pathogens including Staphylococcus aureus and Streptococcus pneumoniae
  • A mechanism to support trainees (PhD students, post-doctoral fellows, clinical research fellows) to develop skills and networks
  • A conduit for public engagement and outreach activities to educate the public about the global threat of AMR and infectious diseases.
