I completed my undergraduate degree in biomedical sciences at the University of Essex. I completed an undergraduate research placement in molecular microbiology using qPCR of functional genes to investigate Spatio-Temporal Dynamics of Functional Microbial Communities. I completed my undergraduate research project focusing on multidrug efflux in Neisseria gonorrhoeae under the supervision of Dr V Bavro.
I worked in industrially accredited food, water environmental microbiology alongside college and undergraduate degree, as a result I undertook work experience in Food, water and environmental microbiology and a summer placement on antibiotic resistance (Biosafety) at Public Health England, Porton Down. My PhD aims to determine the role of mecA and RNA polymerase in high level antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus using interdisciplinary approaches including bacterial 2 hybrid assay, fluorescence microscopy and protein analysis and to determine the fitness costs of expressing high level antibiotic resistance in vivo. |
