Project: Hydrogen sulfide: a major signalling molecule and modulator of antibiotic resistance in Staphylococcus aureus 

Additional achievements
  • Helped organise and host the annual Florey PGR symposium 2014-16
  • Second prize in a Science in Policy competition 2015, held at the University of Sheffield, to write and present a parliamentary briefing note on a scientific topic
  • Designed and presented a viable biotech business plan to a panel of industry experts as part of theBiotechnologyYes competition (2015)
Public engagement and outreach
  • Gave a lecture on responsible use of antibiotics as part of LifeFest 2016
  • Led a lesson to encourage pupils at Meadowhead school (years 7-9) to engage with microbiology through art as part of KrebsFest (Oct 2015)
  • Demonstrated laboratory techniques as part of ‘Hands on DNA’ to engage sixth form students in molecular genetics and encourage disadvantaged pupils to apply to university (July 2014 – July 2016)
  • Demonstrated bioscience experiments as part of Science brainwaves Children’s University Live to enthuse primary age children about science (Oct 2013)
